Adult General Dermatology
A medical specialty focusing on the diagnosis and medical/surgical treatment of all diseases and disorders of the skin, hair and nails in relation to adults.
Back Treatments
This is a facial for the flip side! It is very similar to a facial: Cleansing, steaming, exfoliation, some extractions, mask, and massage ending with a light moisturizer. Since the skin on the back is much less sensitive than facial skin, a back facial is suitable for all skin types. It’s prudent to forgo one if you have inflammatory or cystic acne. This is the perfect treatment if regular workouts trigger back breakouts (A common occurrence, since clothing trap perspiration and oils near the skin).
Botox® Injections
The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name Botox®, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Studies have also suggested that Botox is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.
Chemical Peel
Chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. Phenol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) are used for this purpose. The precise formula used may be adjusted to meet each patient's needs.
Collagen Injection
Collagen injections are used in treating fine lines and wrinkles, as well as shallow scars. Most often, collagen injections treat areas around the mouth, like laugh lines and deep nasolabial creases.
We can use collagen injections to supplement the body’s natural collagen supply, which decreases over time. Using a series of collagen injections, we can raise the treated area, smoothing wrinkles and creases. Although many patients request collagen injections to treat areas of the face, there are a variety of other popular uses for collagen injections, including softening scar tissue and creating fuller lips. Individuals who are interested in receiving collagen injections consult with us to make sure they are qualified—due to the ingredients in collagen injections, people who are allergic to dietary beef or lidocaine, or who have had reactions to collagen injections should not receive injectable collagen. A skin patch test is performed prior to any collagen injections to check for allergic reactions. Once patients have verified that they can safely receive collagen injections, they can plan with us for the location and extent of the collagen injections. Patients who receive collagen injections report little discomfort and seldom require pain medication even after the local anesthetic wears off. Collagen injections usually take only a few minutes, with results lasting up to six months.
Eye Treatments
We provide a wide variety of eye treatments from Eczema ( a chronic disease in which the skin becomes itchy and inflamed, affects about 15 million Americans) treatments to hemangiomas (the term "hemangioma" is used to describe many different kinds of blood vessel growths) treatment.
Facials
Facials are deep skin treatments that cleanse, rehydrate and rejuvenate the skin, apart from minimizing skin blemishes, acne, dry skin and, of course, wrinkles. Facials vary depending on your skin type, the kind of treatment you've chosen, the products used and the person's age. However, it is advisable to start having facials in your late 20's.
Facials involve a cleansing procedure, a massage and steam, and the application of a facemask. What they help to do is remove the dead, dull outer layer of cells that make up the skin's surface or epidermis along with pollutants. The massage, which is an important part of a facial, helps blood circulation, which in turn aids lymphatic drainage (the removal of toxins and waste from the body). A massage also relaxes the facial muscles and is very important to delay the onset of wrinkles. The face is steamed during a facial for two main reasons. Firstly, steam helps the skin absorb cream better. Secondly, it helps in softening blackheads and whiteheads so that they can be removed easily. The application of a facemask in the end helps tone and clarifies the skin. Facemasks are also used to treat dry and acne-ridden skin.
Foot Treatments
We provide a wider variety of foot treatments from nail fungus infection treatments to psoriatic arthritis (which often starts with dry, scaly, and inflamed skin covered by silvery scales)
Hand Treatments
Hands are one of the first parts of the body to show signs of aging because they receive so much exposure. Sunlight, the elements and the natural aging process all contribute to the development of darkened spots, precancerous growths and a loss of fatty tissue.
There are a number of treatment options available to help make hands look younger. Retin-A® and glycolic acid derivatives can be applied to the hands topically. This process causes "age" spots to fade and tissue appears less transparent. Laser treatments can remove 90-95% of age spots most effectively. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion are other options.
Unsightly veins on the hands may be treated with lasers or by conventional sclerotherapy. Natural or synthetic soft tissue fillers can be used to pump up the skin, giving it a more youthful appearance.
Combinations of these treatments can be used to rid the hands of a skeletal look and reverse the signs of aging.
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal systems use laser light — an intense, pulsating beam of light — to remove unwanted hair. We may use multiple treatments to target areas such as the face, upper lip, neck, chest, breasts, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line and legs. The laser used in this office has NYAG (a long wavelength which causes much less trauma to skin of color). Laser hair removal may be an option if you seek long-term results. Laser hair removal is especially helpful in men who have razor bumps.
Laser Tightening
Laser skin tightening is a minimally invasive, non-surgical process that uses an infrared light source (a laser) to tighten skin by heating the collagen under the skin’s surface, causing the skin to contract (tighten). Facial skin tightening is noticeable immediately after the treatment, and there is no downtime, making this an increasingly popular procedure. Additional skin tightening occurs over the next few months, but optimal results usually require two or three treatments about a month apart.
Laser Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing is a treatment for reducing facial wrinkles and skin irregularities, such as blemishes or acne scars.
The technique directs short, concentrated pulsating beams of light at irregular skin. Laser skin resurfacing removes skin very precisely, layer by layer, resulting in fewer problems with hypopigmentation (lightening of skin). This popular procedure is known by several other names, including lasabrasion, laser peel or laser vaporization.
Mask
The facial mask has been developed to give the skin a soothing therapy that has anti oxidants useful in preventing the skin from severe irritation. A mask perfectly made from natural antioxidant with vitamins A and E to helps soothe the skin, clears and closes the pores and moisturizes the skin leaving it fresh looking and radiant as ever. Facial Masks are used at least once a week for the skin to repair and restore its cells. For glowing and blemish free skin, facial masks with natural ingredients is suited for all skin types. A soothing treatment for beauty-conscious, these facial masks make use of natural supplements to wash out clogged pores and absorb extra oils while softening and rejuvenating the skin, giving your face a beautiful radiance. These essential masks utilize the further use of gentle ingredients to totally absorb excess oil five times its weight. They absorb oil deep within the pores which means high reduction of skin oiliness. The facial masks restore healthy cells by removing the dead ones, while effectively cleansing the skin.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a skin-freshening technique that helps repair facial skin that takes a beating from the sun and the effects of aging. The physician uses a device like a fine sandblaster to spray tiny crystals across the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. As with other skin rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed to reduce or remove fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation.
Mole Removal
Moles most frequently develop in young adults until about the age of 40. Depending on their location, moles may go unnoticed -- or they may become a nuisance by rubbing against clothing and getting in the way of shaving. Moles can also lead to dangerous health problems. Many skin cancers, including melanoma, begin in the shape of a mole.
If you have a mole that seems atypical in any way -- one that changes in size and appearance, bleeds, is asymmetrical, is not uniform in color, has ragged edges, or in any other way seems unusual -- it is very important to have it examined by a doctor with experience in treating moles, related skin conditions, and skin cancer.
Not all atypical moles turn out to be cancerous, but they are more likely than typical moles to develop into cancer. If a cancerous mole is diagnosed early, it can often be completely removed. You may also want to have normal moles removed, especially those that rub against clothing or get in the way of shaving. Prominent moles may also be removed to improve appearance.
Pediatric General Dermatology
A medical specialty focusing on the diagnosis and medical/surgical treatment of all diseases and disorders of the skin, hair and nails in relation to children.
Radiesse Injectable Filler
Radiesse filler is a safe, FDA-approved dermal filler that gives you both immediate and long-lasting results. RADIESSE filler stimulates the body to produce new collagen and restores a healthy, natural look. This convenient treatment corrects the signs of Facial Lipoatrophy, including sunken cheeks and indentations, in some people with the human immunodeficiency virus. RADIESSE filler is made of calcium-based microspheres which are suspended in a water-based gel. RADIESSE filler is injected into the skin through a minimally invasive procedure and provides immediate correction.
Restylane Injections
Designed for patients who wish to treat the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles or folds, Restylane injections are now FDA approved for use in the United States. In addition to correcting the signs of aging, Restylane injections can be used to provide lip augmentation and facial contouring. The major advantage to using Restylane injections is the active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the body. And because Restylane injections contain no animal or human products, there is no risk of allergic reaction, so patients can receive treatment with Restylane injections immediately following consultation, without having to wait days or weeks for the results of an allergy test.
There is a low risk of side effects associated with Restylane injections, including swelling, tenderness, and redness, all of which are temporary and often avoidable through the use of proper needle techniques.
Skin Cancer Evaluation
While proper skin protection is important all year long, outdoor activities during the warm summer months can make it more challenging for even the most diligent sunscreen user.
Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers – half of all Americans will develop skin cancer at least once and every hour one American dies of the disease. The American Cancer Society estimates that the number of cases of melanoma rises by seven to 11 percent each year – faster than any other cancer in America. Fortunately, skin cancer is also one of the most preventable cancers.
You should have a baseline screening at age 18; thereafter, conduct a monthly self-exam of moles and birthmarks to check for changes in shape, texture, or color. This should be done in conjunction with annual screenings by us as part of your yearly physical. Our exam usually involves a visual inspection and a closer look at any questionable moles using added lighting with magnification tools.
Skin Cancer Treatment
Treatment of a skin cancer begins with a biopsy to establish what kind of cancer it is – nonmelanoma or melanoma. Once the cancer is defined, treatment can involve chemical or surgical removal depending on the type and its stage of development. If there is a change in your skin, anything that raises a concern, be sure not to ignore it. The earlier a skin cancer is detected, the more effective the treatment.
Vein Treatment (Sclerotherapy)
Sclerotherapy is considered the gold standard treatment for removing spider and some varicose leg veins. It is a very cost-effective procedure that seldom leaves a scar or produces adverse effects. A concentrated saline or specially developed chemical solution is injected with a very small needle into the spider or varicose vein. The solution causes the vein to close up or collapse and become scar tissue that is eventually absorbed by the body. The work of carrying the blood is shifted to other healthy blood vessels nearby |
